NFL Rookie-of-the-Year and Most Valuable Player award predictions

Evan Frazier, Sports Editor

Over the past 10 weeks, we have seen some of the best football in the worst year ever, with easily the best rookie class ever, some old players returning and amazing endings to games.

Rookie of the Year is an award that many wish to hoist above their head at the end of the year. Quarterback Justin Herbert out of University of Oregon is currently ahead for the award by 30 votes. Right behind him is quarterback Joe Burrow out of Louisiana State University. These two have been putting up numbers no one has seen in years—Herbert didn’t even start the first few games of his rookie campaign, but with an injury to the starter Tyrod Taylor, he quickly jumped to the occasion and won the job. Burrow was drafted first overall to the Cincinnati Bengals, but hasn’t put up enough numbers to beat Herbert yet. So that is why fans are confident Herbert will win the award.

The Most Valuable Player is the award that any player in the league dreams of having by the time they retire. The candidates left for this award have narrowed down to four players. These four players are Aaron Rodgers (QB, Green Bay), Patrick Mahomes (QB, Kansas City), Dalvin Cook (HB, Minnesota) and Russell Wilson (QB, Seattle). All these players are very close in the race. Wilson has been in conversation for many years now but has been robbed of the award every year. Mahomes won the award in 2019, and there is a high chance he’ll win another one this year. Rodgers has won the award twice now. Cook was drafted in 2017 and has yet to win the award. He has put up the best numbers for any running back in the league. As of now, Wilson is the favorite for the award, and I agree.

Overall, this year has been nothing short of amazing and I can’t wait to see the results of all the awards.
