Brady vs. Mahomes: the clash of eras

Evan Frazier, Sports Editor

The weekend to watch Super Bowl LV is finally here. Two of the best teams will be playing in Tampa Bay to determine who the World Champion is for the 2020-21 NFL season. There will be fans at the Super Bowl, though the NFL is only allowing 30 percent attendance with masks as a requirement.

First, we have the Kansas City Chiefs, the unproven, young, upcoming dynasty. They have something to prove this year after winning it all last season to the San Francisco 49ers. After an amazing season for the Chiefs, going 14-2, they were heavy favorites to go to the Bowl again this year. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a season to remember after being named a finalist for the Most Valuable Player award, passing for 4,700 yards and 38 touchdowns in the regular season. Chiefs are favorites in this game, and I don’t see them losing.

Then there are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by the greatest to ever play the game: Tom Brady. After spending a spectacular 20 years with the Patriots, Brady decided it was time for a change. He signed a deal with the Buccaneers, leading them to an 11-5 season. The 43-year-old veteran showed that he isn’t washed up this season, passing for 4,600 yards and 40 touchdowns. I have the Buccaneers losing a close one.

History is being made in many ways this year — the Chiefs are hoping to win back-to-back championships, and Brady is chasing his seventh ring. But a more interesting part of history will be made this year. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the first-ever team to appear in their own stadium for the Super Bowl. The closest a team has ever come to this was the Minnesota Vikings back in 2018. The Vikings lost in the NFC Championship game that year.

For my final score prediction, I will take the Chiefs winning it, 35-31. Super Bowl MVP will be Patrick Mahomes.
