Leap Year 2020: Leaper Darren Tingey celebrates fourth birthday

In the Meridian Dictionary, a Leap Year is defined as “a year, occurring once every four years, that has 366 days including February 29 as an intercalary day.” As for you lucky people who don’t have leap year birthdays, you get to enjoy the “Happy Birthdays” every single, get this, year. People with Leap Year birthdays aren’t so fortunate.

Q: What are things people say when you tell them your birthday is on Leap Year?

Tingey: “People ask if I’m 4, or if I can’t get my license until I’m like 90.”

Q: What are some things you’ve heard that are extremely…unheard of or dumb?

Tingey: “People ask me when I can drink, or get my license. Someone once asked me a couple years ago if that was the reason I was so short.”

Q: How does your family react to your birthday?

Tingey: “Like everybody else. It’s a birthday. When it comes up, they get kind of excited and get ready for the Happy 4th Birthday jokes.”

Q: How do you celebrate your birthday?

Tingey: “I pick whichever day works best, schedulewise. If the 28th is a Saturday, I’ll just pick that day.”

Q: What are some perks?

Tingey: “Having an interesting topic about myself. It’s fun to see everybody’s reaction.”
