Tualatin spring sports

The spring sports season has just begun, and Tualatin’s spring teams are ready to make a strong showing this year. Here’s some information on our spring teams and their upcoming games.

Baseball

The Tualatin baseball team is returning many members from last year’s team and has started this season with the benefit of their experience.

The team made it to the first round of playoffs last year and is looking to improve on that finish this year. The team’s next game is today at home against McNary at 5 p.m., so come out to support them! Additionally, the Timberwolves will play their first league game at home against Oregon City on Apr. 7.

Softball

After making two state championship game appearances in the last two years, the softball team is ready to make another successful run this season. The Wolf checked in with senior pitcher Tia Ridings, who shared her outlook on the season and the team’s hope to come back from a disappointing loss in last year’s state championship game.

“The team looks strong! We are all so excited. We let the state title slip away from us last year, but we hope to get it back this year. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish this season.”

The team will be playing in the West Linn/Sunset tournament next Monday and Tuesday, where they will be playing McNary, Sprague, West Linn and Junction City.

Tennis

The Timberwolf tennis team is pumped for another fun season this year. The boys’ team is coached by Mitchell Miyashiro, and the girls are coached by math teacher Bo Williams. Junior Averi Lewis, who will be a key part of the team this year, is happy to be back out on the court.

“I’m so pumped for the season. We are practicing hard to bring home wins from our matches.”

Senior Elyse Burton, another team leader, is also excited for the season.

“I feel really good about the team this year. We have good team chemistry and a lot of new players, which is exciting.”

The boys’ team has its next match on Apr. 3 at home against Sherwood, and the girls’ team has a match at St. Mary’s Academy on Apr. 6.

Golf

The boys’ and girls’ golf teams have been hitting the course and practicing their swings in order to prepare for the season. Both teams have their first Three Rivers League tournament on Tuesday, Mar. 31. The boys’ tournament will take place at the Arrowhead Golf Course, and the girls’ will be at the Willamette Valley Country Club.

Track & Field

The members of the track and field team are ready to reap the rewards of their hard work this season. Last year, both the boys’ and girls’ teams were the Three Rivers League team champions, and the boys’ team went on to claim the state title. Seniors Andrew Payton, Sam Smith and Hannah Olson shared some of the team goals for this season.

“We are looking to sweep districts in events from the 400 to 3,000 meters,” Payton said.

“We have people in all events who have been working hard year-round. Winning the district title and State Championship are high goals of the team this year,” Smith added.

As for the girls’ team, Olson said, “Our goal is to have fun and run fast.”

The team’s first meet is on Wednesday, Apr. 8 at Oregon City along with Tigard and St. Mary’s.

Lacrosse

The Tualatin lacrosse teams have started their seasons strong and are looking to continue this momentum throughout the season. The boys’ team plays today in Bainbridge, Wash., against Bainbridge. They have their next home game on Apr. 10 against OES at 7:30 p.m.

This year, the girls’ team has a new varsity head coach as well as new players stepping into starting positions. The team is confident and ready to play hard this season.

“I’m excited for the season,” senior Alicia Winters said.

Additionally, senior Hannah Schmid said, “Our team has bonded better this year than any other year. This season, I want to have fun and be one as a team.”

The Wolves play their next home game on Apr. 1 against Westview at 7:45 p.m.
