Staff Spotlight: The Wolf’s very own adviser
April 6, 2020
In every school, there always seems to be that one special teacher that just gets it. Someone who empathizes with students and is an inspiration to many. They are admired by students and staff alike, and the dedication to their job as an educator is indisputable. That teacher at Tualatin High School is, without a doubt, Mrs. Lisa Lacy.
Lacy arrived at Tualatin in 2008 and has been a teacher for 22 years. She has been the advisor of The Wolf since 2009, and in 2019, The Wolf earned The George H. Gallup Award from Quill and Scroll, an International High School Journalism Society, under the leadership of Lacy. Lacy is also the co-IB Coordinator at TuHS, along with her partner in crime and fellow English teacher Shem Malone. Malone states that Lacy began her work with the IB program because she wanted to help students succeed.
“Lacy wants to make sure that everyone at Tualatin has the opportunity to take at least one IB class.”
Malone recalls Lacy’s favorite piece of literature being Hamlet, though he tries to argue her out of it every chance he gets. One of his favorite things to do is argue with her about literature.
“She’s got thoughts,” said Malone. “It’s always fun because she’s well-read and she’s always ready to engage.
“Lacy is an amazing colleague. I always feel lucky that I get to ride on her coattails occasionally. She is incredibly wise and generally knows the answers.”
Just as she influences the lives of her coworkers, she’s made her mark on countless students, with editors of The Wolf sharing some thoughts on Lacy.
“Lisa Lacy is a powerhouse. She is possibly the most committed individual within the Tualatin High School building, and she has supported me far more than I deserve,” says Opinion Editor Emma J Nelson. “I couldn’t have asked for a better IB Director, CAS Advisor, or genuine mentor than Lacy, and I’ll forever be grateful for how much she cares.”
“Mrs. Lacy is one of the most dedicated teachers I’ve ever had. Her dedication continues outside of the classroom, and she is always ready to help with open arms,” Fold Editor Ally Smith says. “Side note, she also has a wonderfully infectious laugh that never fails to brighten my day.”
“There are not enough words to describe how unbelievably amazing Mrs. Lacy is,” says Co-Editor in Chief Elle Sherman. “It has been a joy to have had her as not only a teacher but a role model for the past three years.”
From the whole Tualatin High School community to Mrs. Lacy: Thank you, you are so appreciated.
