Fans theorize about Marvel’s “WandaVision” (Spoiler Warning!)
March 2, 2021
Like most Marvel fanatics, I have been excitedly keeping up with the release of each episode of Marvel’s new show WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Paul Bettany as Vision, Kathryn Hahn as the delightfully nosy neighbor Agatha, Randall Park as the charismatic Jimmy Woo and so many more. The show, which no doubt has puzzled its fanbase, has become quite the breeding ground for frenzied fans to whip up astounding theories, some of which are so mind boggling, they just might be true.
Having caught a glimpse of these theories drifting their way across the internet and onto my For You page, and coming from a family with expertise in both the comic book and Marvel Cinematic Universes (MCU), I couldn’t help but cozy up and spend all-too-much time scouring the internet for everything from the most plausible to the most absurd theories that have been put out. Now it is time to share the joy! Without further ado, I bring to you WandaVision theories from across the web.
1. Wanda is not aware or in control of the world she has created.
While after the most recent release of Episode 8 it is no longer plausible to believe Wanda is completely and totally oblivious to the world she has supposedly curated, it is believable she isn’t exactly in control of it. It has been theorized that Wanda is being used, or rather puppeteered. To understand exactly how and why this is occurring (an explanation to can be found here ) one needs a deep understanding of the MCU, but in short, Mephisto, who is described as “an enslaver of human souls,” is using Wanda and this world “she” has created to collect the souls of her children, which brings us to theory 2!
2. Multiple children with super powers will be produced from Westview.
Okay, hang with me here because this one is most definitely niche. It has been theorized that Wanda’s children are not actually here on their own, as they seem to be immune to her powers (still with me here?), and that may make them some sort of ultimate pawn at play in whatever master plan involves Wanda’s utopia, regardless of whoever is actually controlling it. It has been theorized that the hex is being used as some sort of factory to produce superhuman or dare we say super-hero children, although for what purpose is still widely speculated (read more about this theory here).
3. The fourth wall?
This may be more akin to a musing than a fully-fleshed, evidence-stocked theory. However, the most recent episode clearly called towards the fourth wall or, more so, the breaking of said wall. Perhaps the MCU has plans to allow the show to be more inclusive to the watcher through a much more aggressive acknowledgement and playing with this cinematic device? We have felt like spectators for the entirety of the show thus far; perhaps it is time we are dragged in along with the story, almost as participators or partakers rather than observers.
