EUPHORIA

The long-awaited season two of HBO’s television series Euphoria premiered on Sunday, Jan. 6, and all I can say is that the wait was worth it.

Starting off, we were hit with the tragic yet intriguing childhood backstory for Fezco (Angus Cloud), making way for an unlikely new favorite: his grandma. Euphoria is known for its in-depth storylines, so it’s safe to say that we are all excited to see more of Fezco come to life.

Tensions are high between the iconic besties Maddy (Alexa Demie) and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), leading to an intense, horror movie-esque scene involving Nate, who is as disgusting as ever. But don’t worry about him, because justice will be served.

And enter the newest character: Elliot (Dominic Fike). Allegedly, Dominic Fike gatekeepers are angry at the attention he’s getting on TikTok, saying that “just because you listened to ‘3 nights’ in 2019 doesn’t mean you’re a stan. Some of us actually care about him and know his whole discography.” Regardless, his instant click with Rue (Zendaya) makes us hopeful for a strengthened relationship between the two in the future.

Of course, Euphoria wouldn’t be Euphoria without Jules (Hunter Schafer) and Rue. They make a duo appearance at the bonfire scene, although Jules lacks her typical bubbly and kind personality. After the season 1 finale and this disappointing scene, I hope that Rue comes to her senses and finds someone else (ahem, Elliot).

All in all, episode one was a success, and 6 p.m. on Sunday has suddenly become my favorite time of the week.
