Tom Brady announces, quickly reverses “retirement”
April 29, 2022
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady took to Instagram to post his retirement announcement, which was read by many. On Feb. 1, Brady shared his thanks, his reflection and his decision to move away from football.
“This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention,” Brady wrote.
Brady revealed that the reason for his retirement was that he wanted to dedicate his time to his family. Having cofounded companies such as Autograph, Brady Brand and TB12, he also planned to prioritize his time towards helping those companies.
However, after two months, Brady made the decision to return to the National Football League (NFL) as the Buccaneers quarterback for his 23rd season. He posted on Instagram that he was not done yet.
“We have unfinished business,” Brady stated in the following post.
A week before his retirement announcement, on Jan. 23, the Buccaneers played against the Los Angeles Rams and lost with a score of 27-30. This match was a part of the divisional round, and the Rams became a contender for the conference championship. The Rams later won Super Bowl 56 over the Cincinnati Bengals.
“The No. 1 issue for the Bucs against the Rams was their blocking. Their offensive line was an issue against a stalwart Los Angeles front, and Brady was under pressure throughout the game as a result,” The Sporting News writer Jacob Camenker stated.
This loss must have not sat well with Brady, for he and the rest of his teammates had set their hearts on bringing another Super Bowl title home. Brady won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and won one for the Buccaneers during the 2020-2021 season.
During his time playing for the Patriots as their quarterback for 20 years, he gained many fans that look up to him; his championship titles have made him into the football star many know today. One thing that Brady’s fans often praise is his perseverance, and Brady will take on his 23rd season for the chance at another Super Bowl ring.
