Major News for Tekken, God of War; Surprising lack of info for Spider-Man
Another month, another PlayStation State of Play come and gone. On Sept. 13, PlayStation held a showcase that gave players a glimpse of things on the horizon and deeper insight into upcoming games.
After almost exactly a year since the trailer was revealed, many fans were hoping to get more information or even a gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the sequel to the award-winning debut title. However, there was a complete lack of news regarding the game, and fans of the title were left disappointed. With that said, there was an abundance of other content, including a massive gameplay trailer for the highly-anticipated God Of War: Ragnarök. Along with this, new information was revealed for Tekken 8, Yakuza, Hogwarts Legacy and more.
God Of War: Ragnarök
The fifth game in the series and the second since the series took a massive stylistic shift from hack-and-slash to Role-Playing-Game, God Of War: Ragnarök follows Kratos, an ashen-skinned warrior-god, and his son, Atreus, as they venture across the nine realms of Norse mythology on a bloody quest for some father-son bonding time. For those of you who don’t know, the God Of War brand relaunched in 2018 with simply titled God of War. However, this game was actually the fourth game in the series, following God Of War 1, 2 and 3.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Wow these guys are really creative with their titles.” However, Ragnarök is the only main game in the series with a unique name.
Let’s move on to an equally creatively-titled game, Tekken 8.
Tekken 8
If you’re looking for a classic arcade fighter game with classic gameplay, multiple characters and awesome settings, then you can play any of the Tekken games, and get the exact same experience that you would get in Tekken 8. All jokes aside, Tekken 8 is the first Tekken game on the new generation of consoles, which, for PS5 players, means that it’ll be the first time we can experience Tekken with 4k resolution, haptic feedback and all the other fun next-gen stuff. I have to say, even as someone who is not even close to being a Tekken fan, this trailer looked amazing. The graphics were outstanding and the gameplay looked absolutely divine. Definitely a title worth watching.
Hogwarts Legacy
Set long before the time of Harry Potter, in the 1800s, Hogwarts Legacy allows you to venture into the world of witchcraft and wizardry as your own witch or wizard, learn spells, fight monsters and explore an open world filled with mysteries. This game has been in the works for a while now, and the story trailer certainly did the job of making us interested.
There ya have it folks – brief summary of some of the standout games and a teaser of so much more the showcase had to offer. PlayStation certainly has a lot in the works, and it all looks interesting.
