As Y/N stepped off of the bus at the grad night party, she prepared herself for one last night to make magical, crazy memories before she headed off to Harvard University next fall. Throughout high school, she was always known as the mysterious loner who was also really smart, making it hard for Y/N to make friends easily. But tonight was destined to change things. Forever.

Dressed in a glittering, baby-pink, silk mini dress that she thrifted, Y/N decided to take a lap around the party. She didn’t make it far before accidentally bumping into her crazy ex-boyfriend, Josh, standing by the pool.

“What’s your problem, Y/N? You suck,” Josh yelled. He moved towards her, and as Y/N stepped backward to escape, she lost her footing and fell into the pool.

Y/N wasn’t a very good swimmer, so she began to panic as she choked underneath the water. The last thing Y/N felt before she drifted into unconsciousness was a strong arm pulling her to safety.

Opening her eyes, Y/N heard an unfamiliar voice from above her, and as she looked up, she felt a hand graze her face. “Y/N, are you okay? Did he hurt you?”

“No, I’m okay, just startled,” she said. She hoped her mysterious savior didn’t notice her freckles and button nose flush red from embarrassment.

“Are you sure? I’m a certified lifeguard, so I was the only one here with the credentials to give you mouth-to-mouth. I hope that’s okay. I’m Holden, by the way.  Have we met before?”

“I know. I mean, thank you, Holden.” Y/N remembered sitting behind him in sophomore English, admiring his brown locks, but was ashamed that he didn’t remember, so she chose to keep to herself. Y/N could hear the murmurs from around the pool, but Holden was all that mattered at this moment, and he seemed to think the same as he gazed into her eyes.

The beautiful moment was ruined as Josh’s angry voice echoed above them.

“Dude, what are you doing? Y/N is a freak!”

Y/N could see Holden getting angry, making his way towards Josh. Holden was the star quarterback of the Tualatin Timberwolves football team, so he was beautifully toned and muscular. Josh and Holden began pushing each other, and all eyes were on them.

“Guys, please stop it! I don’t want anyone getting hurt!” Y/N yelled frantically.

Holden stepped forward and shoved him before Josh could get a word out. “Don’t talk about her like that!” he yelled as Josh flew into the pool.

Now that Josh was out of the picture, Holden and Y/N were able to share a beautiful night together, no strings attached.

First, they went down the water slide together and at the end they hugged. Then, they went to the flying money machine, and Y/N caught $1 million. After that, the fortune teller predicted that Y/N would live a long, wealthy life, traveling the world and eventually settling down with her hot, movie-star husband.

When they finally sat down at the end of the night, Holden turned to Y/N and said, “I can’t believe I didn’t notice you after all of this time. I think you’re the love of my life.”

Y/N replied, “I don’t know what I feel right now, but I think we should get out of here.”

Holden took her hand and swooped her into his arms. He carried Y/N to the car, holding her in one muscular arm and opening the door to his red Ford 2023 pickup truck with the other. He hit shuffle on his “Feels” playlist and “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK” by Joji started playing.

Holden drove Y/N  to his secret spot, where he had never taken anyone before, and they got cozy in the back of his truck, gazing into the glistening night sky. Y/N felt his eyes on her, and when she looked over he remarked, “Y/N, I don’t know what’s more perfect, you or this night.” Then they locked eyes and his finger brushed Y/N’s perfectly blown-out bangs behind her ears. It was finally the moment she had been dreaming of all her life, and she smiled a little to herself before going in for the kiss.
