The winter season is nearly here, which means Tualatin High School sports will soon commence their activities. Listed below are the winter sports and how interested students can prepare for the upcoming season.
Cheerleading held tryouts back in April for this year’s team. Students who missed tryouts can contact the coaches, according to the team website. Students can see information regarding the team on their Instagram @tualatincheer and on their website: www.tualatincheerleading.com.
Women’s basketball preseason practice started on Oct. 2. Tryouts for men’s and women’s players are planned to be held the week of Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. in the main and small gyms.
The swim team’s first practice will be Nov. 13 from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Students can register at the Athletic Office with Ellie Combs or through the TTSD online store. Those who are interested are required to bring swimsuits, a water bottle, a towel and goggles. Swim caps are provided, but students can bring their own, too, if they have one. Physicals on file are due every two years, so it would be helpful to schedule a physical soon if yours is out of date.
Wrestling is a no-cut varsity sport, meaning there are no try-outs. This year they have added an official women’s wrestling team, approved by OSAA last spring. Any girls wanting to come out can contact Coach Rachel Factora in the main office, or Coach Matt “Ham” Hamilton in Room 44 on A Days or in Room 205 on B Days. Students can register online through the TuHS Athletics webpage or go to the athletic office by the gym and locker rooms to talk with Ellie Combs. Bring gym clothes and possibly wrestling shoes. They do provide some wrestling shoes that can be checked out to wrestlers. Lastly, of course, have a great attitude.
Dance and drill will hold tryouts the week of Nov. 13. The specific day is still to be determined. Athletes can register on the athletic website or get paper copies of the registration paperwork in the athletic office.
Ski had its initial meeting on Oct. 4, while the snowboarding club met last night in the lecture hall. Interested students who missed the meetings should contact club advisers Brandy Shrope (snowboarding) and Wendy Love (ski).
