It was finally Oct. 1; the morning was foggy and the feeling of the holidays was just around the corner. So in light of the current weather, I put on “Last Christmas” by Wham while I walked to the bus. With the 50 degree weather, it already felt like winter, and for me, with winter comes Christmas music.
Now, I am fully aware that October is too early for Christmas music for most. Even if I stand by my opinion that you are severely missing out, I understand your reasoning for waiting until after Halloween.
However, for anyone waiting until Thanksgiving, I simply disagree. Did you even take into account that other countries that don’t celebrate Thanksgiving don’t have to wait as long? Also, why would you openly deny yourself the joys of Christmas for three extra weeks?
Moreover, I personally always play music that fits either my current mood or the weather. So when it is foggy, cold and just generally grey out, I have to play music that fits the weather. Also, if I were to play music that is not Christmas music that also fits the weather, it would be just constantly depressing music. So if my morning is good, I don’t necessarily want to listen to something I know will bring my mood down.
Lastly, people have free will, so even if you don’t like to listen to Christmas music that early, don’t try and prevent me from doing it. Don’t be that person; it’s just annoying. You’re not going to change my mind just because you don’t agree with my music options.
So next time you see someone listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving, just let them do their thing. Or even better, try it yourself because it’s great.
