Dr. Sue Rieke-Smith will step down as superintendent of the Tigard-Tualatin School District on June 30.
For almost six years, Rieke-Smith has served the Tigard-Tualatin community by overseeing and determining the quality of K-12 educational services on a daily basis. Throughout her tenure, many changes came to be that she sees as a step in the right direction for TTSD, and she is proud of the work that has been done to shape the schools. Rieke-Smith, with the help of many, navigated the district through COVID-19 and many other challenges.
In an interview with Tigard Life, Rieke-Smith shared her support for the increase in student representation on the school board over the past years. One of the biggest concerns for students is having little to no say in policy changes coming to their schools. In the search for a new superintendent, many hope that students will be able to have a place for them to speak up about their concerns or have their comments on new policies be taken seriously.
Info about the candidates for the superintendent position is available at ttsdschools.org, which currently has a timeline for the scheduled meetings that will occur throughout these next couple months. Many of these dates serve to check thoroughly that each of the candidates is willing to serve our school communities to the fullest.
On May 20, there will be a meeting to vote on the new superintendent that is accessible to the public.
