At the recent Thespian state conference, TuHS’s fall play, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, won the Oregon Main Stage Performance, received back-to-back standing ovations and many accomplishments in additional categories. It doesn’t stop there: the theatre department is already setting up their next plan of action.
The award-winning musical The Addams Family is set to hit Tualatin High School’s auditorium this spring, filled with effort, humor and relatability. From comics to film adaptations, to even more TV adaptations, the members of the Addams Family have inspired so many popular versions of the initial story. The musical covers the story of a father’s worst nightmare.
“Preparation has been really fun!” Julia Humphries, a TuHS junior playing Pugsley Addams in the musical, said. “We have rehearsals with choreography, singing, rehearsals in the choir room, and acting rehearsals where we block the scenes. We put in about two and a half months of effort and only perform for two weeks, so it’s so important to support our department.”
TuHS students, staff, family and friends will be able to attend the killer comedy on May 10, 11, 17, and 18, with showings on Fridays starting at 7 p.m. and on Saturdays starting at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. You can purchase your tickets for $10 and revisit musical dates and times on the website, found in their Instagram bio (@tualatintheatre).
Grace Simpson, a TuHS junior playing Wednesday Addams, agreed that people should attend.
“It’s a super relatable story with a wide range of characters that anyone who goes will relate to,” Simpson said. “Anyone can relate to being a brother or sister, mother or father, or grandma or in-law. It’s a funny show for the family.”
The Wolf thinks it’s time to support your theatre department by making an appearance at this monstrous musical.
