Tualatin High School (TuHS) recently hosted an event that not only showcased the talents of its students, but also raised funds for a local charity. The Timberwolf Pageant was created by TuHS students raising almost $11,000 for an amazing cause.
The Timberwolf Pageant, a fundraiser in collaboration with Kids Making Miracles at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, features pairs of students who have shared interests or traits. They participated in a seven week fundraising campaign that led up to the event. The winners were determined by a combination of things, such as fundraising efforts, judge scores and audience votes.
Organizing this event required both detailed planning as well as coordination. Student leaders, including senior ASB officer Amity Humphrey and junior ASB officer Sydney McDonald, dedicated themselves to recruiting teams, securing emcees and judges and working with local businesses for donations. They worked with Kids Making Miracles in order to set up a fundraising website to keep track of donation totals, as well as reach out to many local businesses for donations.
Promotion was a key aspect of the Timberwolf Pageant’s success, with Humphrey and her team using the power of social media to generate interest and enthusiasm among peers.
“We made an Instagram account for the pageant and collaborated with the ASB account for the best outreach,” she explained. “Our pairs also promoted the event and their fundraising through their personal accounts and their team accounts.”
Humphrey extended her appreciation to all who contributed to the success of the pageant.
“None of it would have been possible without Sydney McDonald, the Pageant’s Directorship and the rest of ASB, Ms. Fontaine, our judges and emcees, and especially the theater tech crew,” Humphrey said.
