Recently, Tualatin Dance competed at the OSAA Championships, placing second in the 6A Jazz division and fourth in the 6A Hip Hop division. After an exciting season of competitions and performances, the team is proud to have finished the season strong.
“Overall I felt extremely proud of all of us because we’ve all worked so hard to get to where we are, improving our skills every competition,” junior Eunice Lim said. Lim was on the varsity hip hop team.
In addition, senior Tallie Fusitua, who participated in both the hip hop and jazz routines, was named a member of the All State team and was awarded a dance scholarship.
“I am so grateful to have been in the top five percent of scorers this year. It was super awesome being recognized with dancers I had grown up competing against since I was eight, a major full circle moment for me. I also am super thankful to all my coaches who helped me reach this point,” Fusitua stated.
The dance team worked incredibly hard this season, putting in the hours to perform their best.
“Going into state, I think we can all agree we felt ready. Throughout the entire season, we had been having morning practices, weights, team bondings, and watching films, which all contributed to our success,” Fusitua said.
Lim agreed that the team’s dedication to continuous improvement led them to success.
“We had lots of practice. Whether it was after school or before school, we cleaned our routine little by little, reviewing every step, and if we had any questions, we always made sure to ask our coaches,” Lim added.
However, the season was not without challenges.
“Being on a varsity sports team is a huge commitment, and there were times when our team would lose motivation,” Lim said. “During those times, we could all sense that we were all feeling tired. But as a team we always made sure to be there for one another, constantly cheering and hyping each other up, allowing us to overcome any obstacles in our way together as a team.”
