In May, the band and orchestra at Tualatin High School (TuHS) held amazing performances at the POPS concerts, along with other memorable experiences.
Senior Kenny Lopez shared his thoughts about his last performance.
“I’m very excited to play La La Land because It’s such a well known movie, and it’s a very pretty piece with different parts of the movie,” he said.
While Lopez enjoyed the last concert, he will miss participating in the performing arts at TuHS.
“I’m very happy that I managed to stay in band and orchestra for four years of my high school career, and I will miss all the fun activities I did in both groups. I’m very happy with what I’ve learned and how many connections I’ve made.”
The POPs concert has been a tradition for several years. As unforgettable memories are collected over time, senior Naiya Roberts shared her perspective.
“Currently, wind ensemble is working on a piece where it’s multiple songs from Tangled, and it sounds beautiful! We’re also doing select songs from the musical Chicago, which is a jazz dream and is super fun to play.”
As the year comes to an end, May is a reminder of cherishing final performances, rehearsals and times spent with friends reminiscing.
“I think it’s a little bittersweet being a senior in a band,” Roberts said. “I’ve been a part of band programs since 6th grade, so it’s kind of crazy that it’s ending this year. On the other hand, it makes me so proud seeing how the underclassmen have grown over the years and makes me so excited to see where they end up.”
