As the fall sports season winds to a close at Tualatin High School, it is time to recap all of these amazing athletes’ seasons and accomplishments.
Tualatin High School offers a wide multitude of sports during the fall such as football, water polo, cross country, soccer and volleyball. The winter sports season starts on Monday, Nov. 18, so if you missed out on the fall season, be sure to sign up for the winter season.
The Wolf sat down with sophomore water polo player Ethan Clews about the team’s goals this year and tips for beginners. Ethan has been doing water polo for three years. The water polo team has big goals this year and is currently ranked fifth in the state.
“I like the team and the winning,” Clews said. “The team is really close and our team dynamic is good.”
His advice to beginners is, “Just keep practicing and don’t give up.”
The goal for the water polo team this season is “to place top three in the state.”
The Wolf also sat down with sophomore cross-country runner Colton Reid to ask about the team’s goals and advice for new runners. This is Reid’s first year running cross country.
Reid’s favorite part about running is “the feeling of finishing a cross country race when I lay on the ground after it’s over.”
Colton’s favorite part of the team is the community they provide.
“They are great physically and mentally with a great sense of caring and family.”
A piece of advice Reid would give to somebody who wants to start and get into the sport is “to not stop running, and to make sure you have a great finish and maintain a great place.”
His goal for the rest of the season is, “to beat my PR.”
The Wolf also sat down with sophomore volleyball player Naomi Espeland to find out what her favorite aspects of the team are. This is Espeland’s fourth year playing volleyball.
“The team connection,” she said, “and the friends you get out of it. I love the team and how everyone bonds through the program.”
Espeland’s advice to beginners would be to “have a positive attitude and not to be so hard on yourself after mistakes. Volleyball is a game of mistakes.”
Espeland’s goal for this season is to have “really good passing stats throughout the entire season.”
As the fall sports season comes to an end, it is important to congratulate all of these athletes on their wonderful seasons. From the football field to the swimming pool, all of these athletes have done something special this season. Winter sports begin Monday, Nov. 18, so if you missed out on the fall season, be sure to sign up!
