The horrifying phenomenon of No School November, characterized by extra long weekends thanks to the end of the quarter and the start of Thanksgiving break, never ceases to bring every TuHS student unparalleled dread. Steve McFreshman, who is definitely real and definitely scared, happens to be especially worried.
“I don’t even know what to do,” said McFreshman. “There’s too much free time.”
Both McFreshman and more experienced students alike lose sleep thinking about how to fill the empty days that school once occupied. The hours once spent working hard (or slacking off) are doomed to be replaced by leisure and relaxation (or still more slacking off), leaving students everywhere to fret about what they can do.
TuHS senior Annika Guerena, who is tackling No School November for the fourth time now, is still just as distressed as she was the first time around.
“Sure, No School November is cool and whatever, but I literally have nothing to do at home other than homework,” Guerena said, “At school, I can better my education while giggling about tea in the back of the class.”
The burden of having extra time on one’s hands is agonizing, but there is a cure. It’s just as easy to busy oneself as it is to bore oneself to death. The school itself offers a variety of activities during this trying time, including sports, after-school clubs and even live theater: Alice by Heart opens Nov. 14. And in your most destitute moments, you can always annoy your friends. It’s not like they can stop you– they’re just as bored as you are.
