Aside from having no school during Winter Break, students may also experience a feeling of extreme boredom. The harsh transition from three full weeks of classes back to back into two motionless weeks tends to take a toll on many.
“I always procrastinate so I try to finish my homework the first week, and then I go ice skating at the Sherwood Ice Arena, and if it snows then I’ll go sledding,” Tualatin High School senior Shaniya Bihari said.
With a 4.5-star Google rating, the Winterhawks Ice Center offers $25 general admission and $20 group admission for groups with five or more people, so buddy up! The skating rink also has a special schedule for the holiday season, giving customers more time for public sessions.
“The top of Bull Mountain is my personal favorite sledding spot,” Bihari said.
Alberta Rider Elementary also offers a great spot for winter enjoyers to have a roar in the snow.
“The first week, I’m usually working at Trader Joe’s to save money for FBLA Nationals, and second week, my cousins and I travel and visit Leavenworth, Wash.,” Lyan Abdulhaq, a TuHS junior, said.
Leavenworth is a quaint Hallmark movie town, home to the Nutcracker Museum that showcases hundreds of different nutcrackers on display and many nearby ski resorts and wineries.
“I don’t do my homework and procrastinate, so I hopefully won’t be doing much. I enjoy going skiing in the winter on break. It brings me so much joy, so hopefully Timberline or Skibowl and then just hanging out or sledding with friends,” TuHS senior Hailey Malm said.
Both Timberline Lodge and Skibowl are located at Mount Hood and offer dining and lodging for skiers, snowboarders and those who just want a cozy winter staycation.
The winter weather can be hit or miss, so please sleep with your inside-out backwards pajamas with a spoon under your pillow!
