To be perfectly fair, for some people, it just wouldn’t be Christmas without many classic films for the holiday months. From Rudolph claymation to Elf, there are winter holiday movies for everyone, but there is one I find to be exceptionally better than the rest. With its stolen glances, heart-tugging soundtrack, British accents and a perfectly cheesy love story, The Holiday is a Christmas tradition I don’t miss out on.
It follows the story of two women who need a change, so they decide to swap houses for the holiday months. Traveling to opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean, they each find themselves in an incredibly new experience: one in a sunny LA mansion and the other in a cold English cottage. Hoping to forget about their love troubles and heartbreak, they unexpectedly find just the opposite: a once-in-a-lifetime love story. Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black put on a wonderfully cheesy rom-com with a beautiful soundtrack and scenery.
I find pairing this movie with freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies, fuzzy socks and my mom by my side is the perfect way to spend a snowy day. Not only does this movie include Christmas celebrations, but it continues through to New Year’s Eve, making it a movie that you can watch throughout the entire holiday season.
