Football fans across the country were excited for Feb. 9, 2025, as the Caesars Superdome set the stage for Super Bowl LIX. The iconic venue, which has hosted some of the greatest moments in recent NFL history, was once again the host of something spectacular.
This year promised to be historic, with the last remaining teams being the Chiefs of the AFC and the Eagles of the NFC. These two teams earned a trip to New Orleans to play in this heavily-anticipated matchup.
The Philadelphia Eagles prevailed in a blowout victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. After a questionable first-quarter call against the Eagles, they bounced back with a questionable call themselves. The Eagles picked up steam and never looked back, resulting in an 18-point victory over the Chiefs. The final score was Eagles 40, Chiefs 22.
NFL fans were excited about the halftime show, which is something remarkable about the Super Bowl. Superbowl LIX’s performer was Kendrick Lamar, after his remarkable 2024 year. Lamar produced popular songs such as “Not Like Us” and “meet the grahams.”
In addition to the halftime show, the fans were also looking forward to the highly-anticipated commercials that happen every year. A 30-second Super Bowl advertisement costs $7 million, creating $600 million in revenue from advertisements alone.
The Wolf sat down with sophomore football fan Naomi Espeland, who was looking forward to watching this exciting matchup.
“My favorite Super Bowl memory is when my family would come over,” Espeland said. “I think the best halftime show was the one in 2022 with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mary J.”
Quite a few fans were surprised by the final two teams.
“My dad and I want the Bills or the Commanders to hopefully make it to the Super Bowl,” Espeland said in the days before the game. “We doubt the Chiefs will make it.”
Espeland was not looking forward to the Super Bowl commercials, however.
“I think commercials are annoying, honestly,” she said. “Some could be appealing to others, but I don’t pay attention to them much.”
Espeland’s favorite Super Bowl snack “would have to be any type of dip.”
The Super Bowl was the last matchup of the NFL season, and football fans everywhere were looking forward to seeing who the best team was.
