I am a picky Sprite connoisseur. My school meals are not complete without an over processed fast food meal accompanied by a lemon-lime soft drink. I decided to voyage through my typical lunch places to find out which serves the best Sprite.
I began my review at the Wingstop located off of Boones Ferry. I enjoyed the autonomy of the machine, but it could use a little cleaning. I disliked the ice flow, as the chunks were too large for my taste and came out far too fast. However, I did like their variety of fruit flavors and even a lemonade blend of Sprite. After a few sips, I made my decision. The syrup-to-carbonation ratio was off; you could really taste the unidentifiable, mysterious juice used to sweeten this lemon-lime drink. I rate it a 4/10.
Next, I made my way to Dave’s Hot Chicken located in Nyberg Rivers. The Sprite experience here is very typical. You self-serve at one of those basic machines, and once again, let your cup overflow with ice. But this time, the ice is in cylindrical shapes that are the perfect size. There is a fair amount of syrup that mixes with the carbonation quite nicely. I enjoyed the subtle spicy spritz as I drank this with my meal. 6/10.
My second favorite is the Sprite at the Carl’s Jr. off of Boones Ferry Road. One unique thing I enjoyed about the drive through is the visual of the drink selection on the billboard menu. Although the size of my drink was small – to be fair, I did order the smallest size – this is the strongest choice for Sprite near us. The ice is the classic cube and the ratio of sweetness to bubbles was typical. If there is a Carl’s Jr. near you and you’re craving a good ‘ol Sprite, I recommend stopping here. 7.5/10
Lastly, the all-powerful McDonald’s Sprite, purchased at the McDonald’s right off of Tualatin-Sherwood Road, reigns as the best of all. I love that they give you the Sprite already served, no matter if you’re in person or coming through the drive-thru. Their special filtration system keeps the carbonation as crisp as ever. Their Sprite is housed in stainless steel containers, which preserves the flavor better than the paper containers used at competitor restaurants. They also pre-chill their ingredients, ensuring the best quality throughout their entire process. 10/10.
Ultimately, the overall best Sprite is served at McDonald’s, but I am glad to now have a roster of competing Sprites for when there isn’t a trusty McSprite nearby.
