HOSA
One week after Winter Break, Tualatin High School’s HOSA club hosted a mock state for students interested in competing at the State Leadership Conference (SLC) this year. HOSA, a club for future health professionals, is a nationally-recognized chapter that brings together individuals interested in pursuing careers in medicine. Similar to the real state competition, the mock state offered students an opportunity to try new skills, such as physical therapy and medical assisting, as well as take written tests. These are all skills they can compete in at the SLC.
Junior Liam Song was one of the students from TuHS who attended, sharing what skills he tried out.
“I did physical therapy, in which I learned how to help a patient stand up and get used to a cane or walker. Also, I did the CPR skill, and I learned how to do CPR properly.”
For Song, mock state was a fun experience. He plans on competing at state.
“It was a fun and fruitful time that can help me someday,” Song said. “It was a totally new experience for me, and it opened my eyes to the medical field. I also plan on competing at state. If you want to know more about medical stuff or want to learn about the skills, I suggest joining HOSA.”
For anyone interested in medicine, check out our HOSA club! And for those competing at state next week, good luck!
FBLA
Tualatin High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club headed over to Canby High School for the Regional Skills Conference on Jan. 25. There, the club showcased their skills in a large variety of business-related events.
Club members aren’t necessarily planning for a future in a standard cubicle office job; if you’re interested in the principles of healthcare, digital design, agriculture or journalism, FBLA is the club for variety and opportunity.
These TuHS students tested and performed in two events each. Congratulations to everyone who placed in the regionals competition, and good luck on the next step at the FBLA State Business Leadership Conference in April!
