The announcement of Wicked: For Good, a sequel to the musical and recent film adaptation, has sparked excitement for many fans. Building on where the first movie leaves off, Wicked: For Good promises to dive deeper into the world of Oz, bringing new twists and a resolution to the beloved story. 

“I’m excited to see what happens to Nessarose,” said junior Ciena Harmon said.

While the original Wicked focuses on the development of Elphaba and Glinda’s unlikely friendship, part two will shift its focus to the aftermath of the first story. Themes of redemption, power and friendship will be apparent, as the film looks at the consequences of Elphaba’s rebellion. Viewers should expect further examination of the effects of the Wizard’s actions on Oz, and further character development of the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, and the glamorous Good Witch, Glinda. 

Fans of the original Wicked can look forward to many elements that made the film so popular, like the unforgettable music, strong characters and captivating plot. Iconic songs like “No One Mourns the Wicked” and “Thank Goodness” will return, alongside new ones written to match the weight of the story. The sequel will bring a darker tone, as it explores the cost of defying expectations and challenging social norms.
