From her debut with the album Born to Die to her most recent works, Lana Del Rey has become a staple in the playlists of most teenagers who feel understood by her lyrics. The contemporary pop star, through her music, speaks about love, loneliness and even the darker side of fame with disarming honesty. She is now seen on fashion runways, constantly evolving and releasing new catchy songs, most of which have gone viral on social media.
One of the latest announcements from the artist is the release of her tenth album, titled The Right Person Will Stay, scheduled for May 21, 2025. Initially, the album was supposed to be called Lasso, but the singer decided to rename it with a title that could incorporate country vibes with elements of Southern Gothic, reflecting the recent changes in her life, including her marriage to Jeremy Dufrene.
As soon as the news broke, her fans were thrilled, and various speculations began circulating about what the album might be about. Some are not entirely convinced that this will be the final version of the album, as the artist has changed her statements about this release multiple times in the past.
“I think all the songs have been Americana, and I want to wait to see what the musical atmosphere feels like,” the artist told Vogue, “because I don’t usually feel like I need a pause in the creation process, but if there’s a literal energetic pause that almost feels, like, physical, then I have to wait, and I don’t know why.”
Rebecca Godina, a junior at TuHS, commented on the release of the new album.
“I don’t know if country is the right direction for her because the other songs have a different type of music and rhythm,” Godina said. “Even if, as far as I know, she has already collaborated with country artists, I’m not sure how much it suits her.”
Godina also expressed some expectations regarding the new release.
“I still expect to hear her usual style, like songs about love. Also, because of the fact that she recently got married, there might be something about her new relationship.”
She concluded with a comment on what she likes about the artist.
“There isn’t a real valid reason why I like these songs; I simply do. I’m an eternal indecisive person, so my favorite song might change when the new album comes out.”
On April 11, Lana Del Rey decided to surprise her listeners again, with the release of a new song titled “Henry, come on“. The new song is interpreted by some as the beginning of her musical evolution, approaching country and Americana sounds, which highlights her melancholic voice. However, not everyone is convinced that this release best encapsulates the type of country style that many expected.
As anticipation builds, we can just wait to discover the new sound Del Rey has crafted, ready to embrace yet another chapter in her ever-evolving musical journey.
?’s:
Do you think the country is the right direction for Lana?
Mr Malone: Yes, Have you heard Country Roads? As soon as you hear it it’s like in your brain, and it’s a really nice take of what she can do even though it doesn’t feel quite like what Lana del Rey is really about. She’s like really indedited in to films and 50s and 60s, and it doesnt seem like it fits but i think her voice actually is really nice.
Rebecca: I don’t know if the country is the right direction for her because the other songs have a different type of music and rhythm. They are two completely different genres because Lana Del Rey’s lyrics have always been melancholic and nostalgic, while country music is more cheerful and has a different style. Although, as far as I know, she has already collaborated with country artists, I’m not sure how much it suits her.
What do you expect to hear on the album?
Mr Malone: After coachella, I think the next weekend they do this country festival, and i think she’s playing that. And that’s also why I’m very exited to ear that, because her voice is really unique and it doesnt seem like it will fit with country but i also think we dont think enough of the complexity of country, because there’s a lot of different things going on.
Rebecca: I still expect to hear her usual style, like songs about love. Country music is often about failed relationships and impossible love. Also, because of the fact that she recently got married, there might be something about her relationship.
What’s your favorite Lana song/album?
Mr Malone: My favorite album is the Norman Fucking Rockwell, I like all the things in it, my favourite song is also in that album and it’s called Venice Beach.
Rebecca: My favorite song is Salvatore because, as an Italian, I really like her accent when she says Italian words, and the rhythm is very nice. Another one I like is Margaret. There isn’t a real valid reason why I like these songs, I simply do. I’m an eternal indecisive person, so my favorite song might change when the new album comes out.
