William Steele, a TuHS senior, golfer and football player, has made the huge decision to attend the United States Military Academy (USMA) after graduation this spring.
“The school is called United States Military Academy. It’s in West Point, New York, so most people just call it West Point,” Steele explained.
The USMA was founded in 1802, making it the oldest of the five American service academies. This prestige, along with the low acceptance rate, proves what a massive accomplishment this is for Steele.
Despite this, even after getting into the academy, some decide not to go. This could be due to the distance or lack of free time.
“My check-in date is June 30th, so I’m flying out to New York on the 27th,” Steele said.
Even with a shorter summer, Steele is “excited for a fresh start and to be around people with the same goals,” knowing it will “push me more than I could push myself.”
However, anticipating the new and different environment, Steele is “nervous about the rigor and just the amount of work that will go into my next four years.”
Thank you to Steele for going off to serve our country!
