Summers in Oregon are like no other. We have so many beautiful sights to see and nature’s greatest places to visit. There are a number of different places to go, including hikes, lakes, camping spots, beaches and more.
Our list of suggestions has to start with Oregon’s one and only national park: Crater Lake.
Crater Lake is a beautiful national park located in Southern Oregon. It is within the Cascade Mountain Range. This summer is the last summer you can swim in it until 2029 due to a construction project relating to safety issues.
Additionally, we have several other National Park service units here in Oregon. Some of these include: Lava Beds National Monument, Fort Clatsop National Memorial, Tule Lake National Monument and Lewis and Clark National Historical Park.
Another place worth noting is Timothy Lake. Timothy Lake is gorgeous and has a campground with a view of Mount Hood. Hoodview Campground has campsites on the water but also many sites within walking distance from the lake. Timothy Lake is a perfect place for a family getaway. The sites go fast, so it is smart to book far in advance. But if you are looking for just a daytime activity, they have a day use area that you can spend time at the lake without camping. So grab your paddle boards, lace up your hiking shoes and have your next adventure at Timothy Lake.
“What I love about summers in Oregon is having access to go up to the mountain, go to the beach, go to the city, or go to the river. We have everything, plus all the greenery and getting to garden,” said TuHS chemistry and forensics teacher Menley Jackson.
Jackson also shared that one of her favorite summer activities is surfing. She enjoys surfing at the beaches here in Oregon, primarily Pacific City. She also enjoys hiking, running, gardening, camping and fishing.
Living in Oregon means you get to experience all the seasons and all the different types of weather. You can go from skiing on Mount Hood to surfing at the coast. Summer is the perfect time to spend every minute we can outside and appreciate the beautiful place we get to call home.
