In-N-Out vs. Shake Shack: Which is better?

Juliana Villanueva, Staff Writer

There has been a long-lasting showdown between two burger-based fast food chains: In-N-Out Burger and Shake Shack. In-N-Out is considered the fast-food chain of the West, and Shake Shack is considered the fast-food chain of the East. However, locations of both have been popping up everywhere. It makes us question ‘Which one is better’?

I perceive Shake Shake to be better than In-N-Out.

While In-N-Out’s menu is familiar and the vintage tropical tree theme has been culturalized, the menu has not changed in the last 18 years, consisting mainly of burgers and fries. Adding lemonade was the only change made. On the other hand, Shake Shack’s menu has a variety of different foods, such as hotdogs, unique burgers and chicken tenders.

A meat-free burger at Shake Shack called the ‘Shroom Burger’ received a ton of recognition. It consists of a mix of melted Muenster cheese and cheddar cheese, fried portobello mushrooms, tomato, lettuce and the ShackSauce.

Although the ‘Shroom Burger’ seems to be a healthy alternative, it contains a huge  amount of cheese, Mashed Writer Boshika Gupta stated. Gupta continued that with the massive amount of cheese, within the burger is a measly 18 grams of protein. On the flip side, In-N-Out’s Double-Double consisting of two burger patties – just as the name says – contains 37 grams of protein.

Even if the ‘Shroom Burger contains an insufficient amount of protein, it’s a rather more intriguing option for vegetarians. The ‘Shroom Burger in particular takes a new spin on burgers without meat.  With both burger chains at stake, both have a fair amount of fans and recognition.

In conclusion, Shake Shack is better than In-N-Out. But it all depends on how unique the burger is and how the burger tastes.
