Met Gala has some students scratching their heads

Cristian Hernandez, Staff Writer

The Met Gala in New York City is an annual fundraising event to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and marks the yearly opening of the fashion exhibit. In 2014, tickets for one individual were $30,000 for anyone outside of the guest list and $200,000-$300,000 for one table, which is limited to about 650-700 people. This is what creates the exclusivity factor of this event mostly attended by celebrities.

Even with it being hyped up, people said this year’s Met Gala was overrated, and the event has been criticized a lot.

The Wolf talked to a Tualatin High senior Jeylee Ayala about what they think about this year’s Met Gala event.

Whose outfit was your favorite and why?

“There were plenty of good looks this year at the Met Gala, but none really caught my attention like Lil Nas X. He was seen wearing three different outfits by Versace. Lil Nas X has made a big shock effect on the music industry this year with his music videos, lyrics and being loud about being part of the LGBTQ+ community. He did not fail to bring that same energy to the Met Gala. He looks very glamorous and overall amazing!” Ayala said.

Overall, what would you rate this year’s event from 1-10? And why?

“I would rate the 2021 Met Gala a good 6. I didn’t really like the outfits this year. Some artists could have definitely brought something better to the table. I was disappointed by some. Most of the looks were really simple and were simply not my cup of tea.”

If you were at the Met Gala, what would you wear?

“If I were invited to the Met Gala, I would wear something that I have never worn before. I would want a huge dress or something no one has ever seen. I would love to be more on the classy side than the weird Frank Ocean doll-holding kind of thing.”
