“Book of Boba Fett”: the long-awaited story

Madison Dowell, Staff Writer

With yet another installment in the Star Wars franchise comes “Book of Boba Fett.” The seven-episode series focuses on Boba Fett, previously a side character originating from The Empire Strikes Back who has gone on to cameo in other Star Wars media and most recently in The Mandalorian. If you’ve been catching up with the tales of Mr. Fett, good on you. If not, the following is a brief summary of his adventures.

The famed bounty hunter, Boba Fett, was not born but cloned from Jango Fett on the planet of Kamino. In Attack of the Clones, an adolescent Boba is thrown for a whirl when his dear father is killed at the Battle of Geonosis and is adopted by his bounty hunter aunties and uncles to learn to become a great bounty hunter. However, our good bud Boba did not make his first appearance as a child but as an adult in Empire Strikes Back, where he is hired to capture Han Solo. He later returns in Return of the Jedi, where he falls into a sandy pit with a giant worm monster, does a little scream, and is eaten.

Luckily, Boba is a baddie and survived little miss worm. He comes to make his shocking debut on The Mandalorian in season two as a very alive man. After aiding the show’s namesake, he ventures back to Tatooine, where he continues his story in Book of Boba Fett.

In his solo debut, Boba Fett and his right hand woman, Fennec Shand, take over the position of Daimyo, which is a high title originating from feudal Japan and is the highest position of power in Tatooine. A previous Daimyo was Jabba the Hutt, a former employer of Fett who ruled cruelly and without remorse.

However, Fett isn’t like the other girls and wants to reside over his territory a bit more ethically. He isn’t carried around on a throne, he doesn’t approve of slavery and is a friend to the Tusken Raiders. The Tuskens are a native people to the endless sand dunes of Tatooine, and they are the reason Fett survived miss worm, as shown in flashbacks on the show.

At this time, only five episodes have been released in the series and all have been an insightful look into a beloved character and his story. Fans are ecstatic for the new series about someone who’s not quite a Mandalorian, not quite a bounty hunter, but completely his own man. While some fans want new stories set somewhere other than Tatooine, all fans can appreciate the new change that Book of Boba Fett brings to an old character and how he might affect the Star Wars universe as a whole.
