Prom to-do list helps students prep for long-awaited event

Prom is right around the corner, and that means talk about clothing is in the air. Style is an extremely important part of personal expression, so it is no surprise that prom outfits are taken very seriously. It is no small task finding the perfect look, so here are some prom fashion expectations, as described by a handful of TuHS students.

First things first: dresses and suits. A good dress or suit is the key to the perfect outfit, as it pulls everything together. The top choice this year seems to be any kind of black dress or suit, as it is extremely versatile and easy to style.  An eco-friendly way to find a simple dress or suit is your local thrift store because, not only will it be inexpensive, it will be unique. Both seniors Charlie Peterson and Alexis Davis found their dresses second hand.

Next up is shoes. Heels and dress shoes are a great way to dress up a bit, but you can never go wrong with a pair of Converse or Doc Martens if you are going for a more casual look. This year, square-toe heels are definitely in, fitting with the Y2K/’90s trends. Black is always an elegant way to go, but don’t be afraid to spice things up a bit and try a fun color, such as green or red.

After the main pieces of the outfit are decided, jewelry is a must-have accessory. Necklaces and earrings really help to finish a look and add to the whole vibe of the outfit. Simple chains and hoops are amazing. Try to match the type of metal to your outfit to bring everything together, but don’t be afraid to mix them! Gold and silver will never clash in my book.

“I’m planning on layering my necklaces and wearing my normal stacked earrings with some dangly silver pendants,” says senior Ryann Schlachter.

Last but not least: hair. If you look at Pinterest for hair inspo, there is a good chance you will be totally overwhelmed, but don’t worry. This year, wearing your hair down is the choice! Curly, straight or wavy, all hair looks good , so why bother sticking dozens of bobby pins in for one night? Wearing your hair down is simple and stylish, and if you want to go the extra mile, you can always add a few clips for an extra sparkle.
