The weather is getting warmer, which calls for one thing: ice cream. Salt & Straw changes out its flavors monthly, which is perfect if you’re looking to change your typical ice cream order and try something new this summer. To find the best flavors for you, The Wolf decided to test out all of the options offered at Salt & Straw this season.

Sea Salt w/ Caramel Ribbons: 8

This flavor tasted surprisingly light compared to the usual rich and sweet flavor it has. The saltiness initially hits your tongue but is balanced out with the sweet caramel.

Chocolate Gooey Brownie: 7.8

This flavor is catered to chocolate lovers. The brownie chunks added a nice consistency to the ice cream, making it have more of a bite.

Cinnamon Snickerdoodle: 20

In our completely unbiased opinion, this is the best flavor Salt & Straw offers. It has the perfect ratio of cinnamon to snickerdoodle cookie chunks. Expert recommendation: it is paired best with “Cold Brew Coffee Cashew Praline” or “Coffee And Love Nuts” for the ideal cookie and coffee combo.

Honey Lavender: 8.5

Honey Lavender may sound a little questionable, but it is the perfect flavor for heading into the warmer weather. It is a super light option and is definitely worth trying.

Strawberry Honey Balsamic w/ Black Pepper: 7

This flavor was a pleasant surprise with its slight tangy aftertaste. The balsamic cuts the usual overpowering sugariness of strawberry ice cream, but the honey adds back a little sweetness to make it the perfect combination.

Pear & Blue Cheese: 4

This option was more pear forward, but the blue cheese will catch you off guard. The chunks of pears were caramelized and added a nice texture. Overall, it could be worth trying if you are a fan of blue cheese.

Arbequina Olive Oil: 8.7

Although olive oil isn’t the typical ice cream flavor people are drawn to, we were pleasantly surprised by this unique flavor. The texture of this ice cream is what stole the show. It was super buttery, thick and sweet with the perfect hint of olive oil.

Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge (v): 8

If you’re a peanut butter lover, this flavor is for you. The opposing textures of the peanut butter brittle and the smooth peanut butter compliment each other well.

Marionberry Coconut Sherbet (v): 7

This coconut-based sherbet is an amazing vegan option. Since the base is coconut milk, it adds a smooth texture. It is the perfect summer flavor due to the light freshness of the marionberry and coconutty flavors.

Wynwood Brewing Mango Habanero IPA Sorbet (v): 6
Though this flavor sounds intimidating, it was very flavorful. Expect a sweet mango sorbet with a kick. The aftertaste leaves your throat tingly and wanting more.

Overall, Salt & Straw has so many tasty flavors to choose from and definitely some funky ones to test out this summer. The employees are super friendly and helpful, leaving us excited to return.
