Cinema-lovers anticipate great year ahead

There’s no doubt that 2023 was one of the best movie-releasing years yet. From Barbie to Oppenheimer, there was a movie for everyone. 

However, the movie lineup for 2024 is looking strong, giving 2023 a run for its money. There is already an extensive list of movies to come out this year. Here is just a starting list of movies that many people are greatly anticipating: Mean Girls, Book of Clarence, Argylle, Lisa Frankenstein, Madame Web, Bob Marley: One Love, Dune: Part 2, Road House, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Mickey 17, The First Omen, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver, Challengers, Civil War, Idea of You, Fall Guy, Back to Black, IF, Furiosa, Kingdom of the Planet of Apes, Garfield, Ballerina, Inside Out 2, Bad Boys 4, The Bikeriders, A Quiet Place: Day 1, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, Twisters, Deadpool 3, Borderlands, Kraven the Hunter, Beetlejuice 2, Transformers 1, Saw XI, Joker: Folie à Deux, Smile 2, Venom 3, Red One, Gladiator 2, Wicked, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Mufasa: The Lion King, Nosferatu, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, It Ends With Us.

The Wolf interviewed several TuHS students, as well as economics teacher Christopher Duke, to see which movies they are looking forward to watching this year and why. A brief description of each movie is also included.
Joey Mattecheck – Bob Marley: One Love: a musical/drama film about the journey the Jamaincan singer-songwriter goes through to become the most famous reggae musician in the world.  

“I’m excited to watch this movie because Bob Marley’s music hits on a beach!” 

Mabry Martin and Andrea Valle: Despicable Me 4: a comedic animated film about a new member of Gru’s family, Gru Jr. Gru develops a new enemy and the family as well as Gru’s girlfriend is on the run. 

“I’m so excited to see this movie because I want to see Gru Jr.!”

Tristan Gore: Godzilla X Kong: this adventure/thriller movie revolves around the histories of the Titans and their origins, as well as the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond. It delves into the mythic battle that helped forge these beings and tied them to humankind.

“I’m excited to see this movie because I really like Godzilla!”

Christopher Duke: Dune: Part 2: Based off of Hank Herbert’s science fiction novels, this film will pick up where Dune: Part 1 left off. It will be about Paul’s rise to power among the Fremen and his rebellion against Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV. 

“I’m excited to see Dune: Part 2 because I have a deep affection for the books.”

Watching new movies offers a chance to immerse yourself in diverse stories and experience captivating visuals. It provides an opportunity for escapism, entertainment and often sparks conversations, making it a worthwhile and enriching experience. So, this year make sure not to miss out on all the wonderful cinematic masterpieces yet to come!
