Worried about how to spend your time at home with nowhere to go and little to do? Now is the perfect time to curl up with a good read! Whether you’re into fiction or nonfiction, contemporary or historical novels, here are some hand-picked favorites we guarantee you won’t be able to put down.

I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

This one is an all-time favorite. The novel centers around Jude and her twin brother Noah, who, once inseparable, have been torn apart after the tragic death of their mother. What makes this story particularly interesting is that it alternates between the perspectives of 13-year-old Noah and 16-year-old Jude, leaving the reader to wonder if the siblings will ever work through their grief and find their way back to each other. It is truly an emotion-packed story about family love and learning to cope with grief.

Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson

Recently adapted to the screen in December of last year, this memoir narrated by defense attorney Bryan Stevenson tells the true story of his journey combating racial and legal injustice in his mission to free Walter McMillian, an innocent black man who was falsely accused of the murder of a white woman and sentenced to death row. Stevenson’s struggle for justice in Walter’s case and those of many other clients is sure to be an emotional ride but one that is definitely worth it.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

Based on actual interviews with Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew transported to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1942, this novel tells of his vivid experiences serving as a tattooist tasked with permanently marking Jewish prisoners. Filled with descriptions of horrific brutality and incredible compassion, Sokolov’s gripping story provides a unique perspective on camp conditions but also on the power of humanity in the darkest times.
