Release of many sequels postponed due to coronavirus concerns

The release of many cinematic sequels, remakes and series installments have been postponed due to COVID-19. You’ll have to wait a bit longer to see these movies, but they will be amazing nonetheless!

Mulan

Disney’s live-action remake of Mulan, originally set for release on Mar. 27, will reach theaters on July 24. However, it will not be a shot-for-shot remake of Disney’s animated classic. Instead, the live-action rendition will be more of a realistic war drama, focusing on the actual legend of Hua Mulan. Yes, that’s right: musical numbers and beloved dragon sidekick Mushu did not make the cut. But, what the movie lacks in comedic relief it will make up for in epic visuals and battle sequences.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway

This sequel to 2018’s Peter Rabbit will be an epic journey in which Peter, voiced by James Corden, ventures away from the farm to the big city and causes plenty of chaos along the way. Other stars in the cast include Sia and Margot Robbie, who voice Mrs. Tiggy Winkle and Flopsy Rabbit, respectively. Initially, it was supposed to be released on Apr. 3. Its new release date will be Aug. 7.

Wonder Woman 1984

Gal Gadot stars as Wonder Woman once again in Wonder Woman 1984, which will now be in theaters on Aug. 14, 2020, two months later than its original release date. In this sequel, Wonder Woman faces off against friend-turned-foe Cheetah, played by Kristen Wiig.

A Quiet Place Part II

Starring Emily Blunt, this sequel to the 2018 horror film A Quiet Place will hit theaters on Sept. 4. Its original release date was Mar. 20. The film was written and directed by Blunt’s husband and fellow actor, John Krasinski, who played the father of the Abbot family in the first movie.

No Time to Die

No Time to Die, Daniel Craig’s last movie playing the role of 007, will also be released much later than originally planned. Instead of Apr. 2, it will be hitting theaters on Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving. In the movie, James Bond runs into much action and danger on his quest to save a kidnapped scientist.

Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun fans will have to wait just a bit longer to see their favorite storyline back on the big screen. This highly anticipated sequel to the 1986 classic Top Gun stars Tom Cruise, back as Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell after 34 years. He is now a flight instructor leading a new generation of pilots. The film’s original release date was June 24, but will now be released six months later on Dec. 23.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

Originally, this addition to the Despicable Me movie family was set for release on July 3. It’s release has been postponed a whole year, as it will now reach theaters on July 2, 2021. This sequel to Despicable Me spinoff Minions focuses on young Gru’s journey to becoming a supervillain.
