Long awaited Spider-Man game does not disappoint

After the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Insomniac Games was faced with the challenge of creating a masterpiece that could blow past expectations created by two already award-winning stories. Fans weren’t sure what to expect, but everyone was sure that they didn’t want recycled content with irrelevant villains and a similar storyline.

Insomniac didn’t let anyone down when they released their first trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The moment the trailer was released, fans were extremely happy to see the reveal of Venom, confirming his appearance as one of the antagonist characters. Everyone couldn’t wait for the game’s launch, and the anticipation grew stronger as the release date crept up.

On Oct. 20, the game launched worldwide on PS5 consoles. The game didn’t disappoint a bit as fans completed the game within a couple of days. The map grew twice in size with the addition of Brooklyn, Queens and an updated version of Manhattan. Insomniac also added dozens of new suits for both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, with four different colorways for each one. They implemented fast travel for the first time, a widely scoffed-at feature due to the super satisfying traversal speed that was impressively smoother than the previous games, adding the option for faster movements such as web gliding, loop-de-loops and point launch.

“I never use the fast travel, actually. It’s hella fun just to swing around the city from end to end seeing how fast I can go,” Tualatin High School  senior Isaac Elias explained.

The game has seen a lot of success, selling more copies than both of its predecessors and quickly becoming one of the fastest-selling PS5 games so far. Spider-Man 2 has already been nominated for seven different categories at The Game Awards, including Game of the Year, which will be announced at their awards ceremony on Dec. 7.

“It might feel like $70 down the drain for a game that can be watched on YouTube,” Elias added. “But if you’re into anything Spider-Man, I feel like it’s definitely worth it.”

Hello, my name is Ahmed Altuhafi. I am a junior at Tualatin High school, and an athlete who enjoys soccer, tennis, and swimming. I enjoy playing video-games in my free time and hanging out with friends and family. One reason I joined the Newspaper team is because Mr Malone (the journalism and IB English teacher) recommended that I do it, and I found out that I really enjoy writing about short stories. So ultimately I found that newspaper sounds like a great choice.
