Love facilitates growth and improvement

One of the most significant qualities of love is its ability to allow room for growth, all the while remaining strong. Oftentimes, we find ourselves fearing change, which inhibits our self improvement. It is important to remember that these kinds of changes are a part of life, and the ability to improve and grow should be embraced. Allow the people who love you to accompany you on this journey.

Personal growth is hard because it requires an individual to be reflective,” TuHS psychology teacher Sean Haley said. “Without asking ourselves difficult questions through self-reflection, any growth can be stymied.”

Authenticity and personal growth are two things that go hand in hand. Although allowing yourself to be honest and true to yourself can be scary, it is beneficial in the long run. Don’t be afraid to share your true personality, interests, or other traits with your family and friends. Embrace your authentic self. It is wonderful to know that your loved ones care about you when they support your talents and interests.

“My mom supports me by coming to all my cheer competitions and helping me get ready,” junior Evelyn Garpestad said.

A lot of people fear change and growth because it opens up the possibility for making mistakes. Allow yourself to embrace change and expect to make mistakes along the way. Mistakes are how we grow, and failures should be seen as  learning opportunities rather than  signs that you should give up.

“Mistakes help us achieve our goals,” one Tualatin High student said. “Trust the process, it takes time to improve.”

Remember to be patient with yourself. Keep in mind that nobody is perfect, and treat yourself the way you would treat a loved one. If you are struggling, reach out to someone you trust. Love is incredible because it means we don’t have to change and grow on our own.
