Tualatin High School offers several advanced courses outside International Baccalaureate. One in particular contributes to much of our school environment: ABP (Advanced Business Procedures). The ABP class requires two prerequisites, Marketing 1 and 2 or Accounting 1 and 2, so the class consists solely of juniors and seniors. They’re constantly working on new designs for and making T-shirts, updating the student store menu and creating and delivering teacher subscription boxes. Their impact hits all corners of the school, so let’s embrace their spirit!
ABP Chief Executive Officer Ayla Becker, Chief Financial Officer Everett Caspell and Design and Production Lead Carter Garrett spoke on their experiences being a part of this strong marketing team.
Q: What has been your favorite project?
Becker: Planning the meetings every month and presenting them to the class is my favorite activity.
Caspell: Making the monthly schedule for the class, and being able to put friends together to make it fun for them.
Garrett: My favorite project has been making the senior banners this year!
Q: What is a highlight of being a part of ABP?
Becker: Choosing one is difficult because everything that comes with the class is a highlight, like helping out with all the different groups and projects. But I’ve always enjoyed going shopping for and working in the student store the most.
Caspell: Doing all the behind-the-scenes tasks and seeing everything we’ve planned work out, like the final product of the Pack Boxes.
Garrett: Just seeing all the collaboration within this real work environment.
Q: What is something you work on/do that the student body isn’t aware of?
Becker: I feel like people don’t know everything that goes into the store itself, Design and Production and Pack Boxes— there’s so much that goes into prepping those things. There are months of build-up and preparation that go into our work.
Caspell: Not a lot of people know that we make Pack Boxes every month; they are filled with shirts and overall Tualatin gear for our teachers to buy. But now, it is open to parents as well.
Garrett: Most people aren’t aware that within Design and Production, we design lots of logos for a large variety of Tualatin groups. All of the hoodies and T-shirts we are asked to make are designed and produced in-house.
With their collaboration, creativity and commitment, this class often goes underappreciated. When buying spirit merch for games, listening to their speaker’s music during lunches or looking at all the senior sports banners, don’t forget to thank ABP and all the current seniors in it: Aaron Bayha, Ayla Becker, Everett Caspell, Jaquelin Urbina Contreras, Mia Burgos Davila, Jacob Dobrean, Matthew Dollar, Brayden Ericksen, Jenna Fernandez, Carter Garrett, Tristan Gore, Mercedes Guyette, Levi Johnson, Owen Kozak, Keegan Krahnke, Molly Labhart, Sophia Levitsky, Teresa Massaad, Quinn Mattson, Parker Morgan, Alen Mustedanagic, Dax Myers, Diego Secundino-Sanchez, Thu-Vy Pham, Vincent Sadighi, Mackenzie Volm, Madison Whitney and Emily Interian Zinzu.
