One of Tualatin High School’s associate principals, Brooke Mayo, was recently recognized for her exceptional leadership when she was named the 2026 Oregon Association of Secondary School Administrators Assistant Principal of the Year.
“I am truly honored. This award serves as motivation to continue advocating for our students and fostering an inclusive environment,” said Mayo.
What is her greatest pride surrounding her work? Mayo highlighted her collaborations with our Gender Sexuality Alliance.
“We facilitated professional development workshops designed to equip our staff with tools needed to create affirming environments. These workshops have established a culture of support where all identities are respected.”
She conveyed much gratitude for her role in our school.
“My favorite part of my job is connecting with and supporting both students and staff. I truly love collaborating with students as we discuss the changes they want to see within the school. Their insights and enthusiasm inspire me, and I cherish the opportunity to be actively involved in shaping a positive school environment together.”
Mayo is very active in her efforts to support our students and staff and provides advice for those interested in taking on leadership roles.
“Lead with the people, not for them,” she said. “It’s essential to collaborate and involve stakeholders when working towards change. Leadership is about lifting others up alongside you, fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered. By working together and embracing diverse perspectives, you can create a more inclusive and effective approach to leadership.”
Mayo is an extremely valuable member of our staff who prioritizes connection and positive environments within our school. She works to ensure students and staff feel respected and supported through many efforts, including LGBTQIA+ and cultural equality within our community, as well as the Student of the Month recognition program, which allows teachers to nominate students and highlight their achievements.
She actively works towards fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students and staff, and encourages our community to work together and celebrate each other. Her efforts within our school leave a positive impact on our entire community every day, and are highly deserving of the praise this award brings. Congratulations, Ms. Mayo!
