A $15,000 check was awarded to the digital arts media class taught by Anneke Schoneveld in December of 2025 as part of SELCO Community Credit Union’s Classroom Makeover program.
Before receiving the check, Schoneveld’s classroom had served as an old computer room. This dull environment was not optimal for creating art or sparking creativity, so thanks to this newfound budget, the working environment will be rebirthed for future generations of students to enjoy.
Schoneveld agrees with this sentiment.
“People don’t realize how much their environment affects them, and I love spatial design,” she said. “I love graphic design when it comes to your attention and enhancing your environment.”
Schoneveld suggested that the design of the room itself is a core element within digital arts media. The budget is not just going to a room revamp; the budget is also going into hands-on resources for students to use.
“I’ll have better printers to be able to put up student projects and other things and kind of display the work that’s being made,” she said.
With money not only going into the revamping of the room but also the contents of the room, the class should benefit greatly from this gift and be able to create more forms of media within the class. The state of their physical environment is very important to how students function in a class.
According to Schoneveld, “I really think your environment inspires you. It could be neutral, but your environment could do a lot to push you forward.”
The organization who awarded the money, SELCO Community Credit Union, often donates to communities to give back and improve classrooms and organizations. Their focus is to remove barriers to education and prioritize students’ learning development and environment. They don’t just donate checks to schools, but also scholarships to students. They also organize community drives such as book drives, food drives and more for the public.
Overall, this donation to rebuild the digital arts media class was received very positively by the art community at Tualatin High.
