The most valuable volunteer experiences are often defined by the skills developed, communities served, and long-term impact created. Volunteering plays a significant role in strengthening college applications and fostering real-world leadership. For this edition of The Wolf, we asked the Newspaper Staff to share what they consider their most valuable volunteer experience.
“My most valuable volunteer experience has been my work at Every Body Athletics. EBA is a place where adults with disabilities can do workout classes and participate in athletics. I have made so many friends there and it has made me a better person by challenging my social, emotional and athletic skills.”
– Layla Madrid, Sports & Humor Editor
“My most valuable volunteering experience is probably our Pack Leaders program here at Tualatin. I do a lot of volunteering activities outside of school, but this one is my favorite because I get to spend time with some of my best friends and meet new people alongside them.”
– Lyan Abdulhaq, Website Editor & Co-Social Media Editor.
“My most valuable volunteering experience was undoubtedly the Intercambio mentoring program. The volunteering is tied in with a class taught by Mr. Lieuallen here at TuHS. Intercambio mentors are expected to volunteer two hours of their time every week to mentor 8th graders. The amount of leadership skills and empathy I learned through the program is truly unparalleled and I thoroughly recommend sophomores learn more about this opportunity from counselors / Mr. Lieuallen.”
– Braden Hudspeth, Entertainment Editor.
“My most valuable experience volunteering was at the Oregon Food Bank with my IB seminar class last year. It was my first volunteering experience, and it was definitely worth doing.”
– Duaa Hassan, Staff Writer
“My most valuable volunteer experience was when I used to help cook and set up team/holiday dinners for my local hockey team in Alaska. It was a very wholesome and special tradition, and I’m very thankful that I was involved in it.”
