Happy Halloween, Wolves! It’s that time of year again –when the candy is ready to be handed out and you’re more likely to see a werewolf at the grocery store than your science teacher. Halloween is a widely-celebrated event that has many modern traditions like haunted houses, trick-or-treating and, of course, dressing up in costumes.
Throughout the years, Halloween costumes have evolved from Celtic traditions of wearing masks and disguises to ward off spirits to modern choices inspired by pop culture, movies and homemade creativity. In our present day, there is a wide range of costumes, from the traditional monsters to popular costumes that are trending.
Last Halloween, there were a lot of popstar lookalikes, like Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan and Charlie XCX, as their new albums were trending. Group/duo costumes were also widely seen. Who knows what will show up this year? Kpop Demon Hunter characters, Glinda or Elephaba from Wicked or maybe even some Labubu dolls.
Halloween is the one night every year when you can be whoever or whatever you want and no one can say a word. The Lorax, a Dr. Seuss character? Frat boy? A random Tik-Tok trend? Go for it! Costumes aren’t just outfits – they’re statement pieces, a chance to let your imagination run wild and transform into something spooky, magical or totally unexpected. Let’s hear some ideas from a few of our own students
Freshman Eloise McClaughry shared what costumes she is looking forward to this year.
“I’m looking forward to seeing more creative and fun costumes and maybe some people dressed up from older movies from the 2000s,” she said.
While she is looking forward to more upbeat, classy costumes, sophomore Natalie Black is looking forward to a different costume idea.
“I am looking forward to seeing voodoo dolls,” Black said. What will some of our students be dressing up as? Miles Larson, a junior, shared what he plans to dress up as this Halloween.
“This year I am going to be dressing as my favorite basketball player, Lebron James,” he said.
Senior Lauren Rufener shared what she will be wearing for Halloween.
“I am going to be a bee, matching with one of my friends who will be a ladybug.”
Rufener also predicted the costumes that will be the most popular this Halloween season.
“I predict that these animals will be the most popular: cats, bunnies, and deer are always popular and cute.”
Regardless of what you’re wearing this Halloween, one thing is for sure: T-Wolves know how to step up and show out. From trending classics like different TV or movie characters to classic favorites like witches and ghosts, Tualatin will be coming alive with Halloween spirit.
Whether you’re staying in and watching scary movies or going trick-or-treating to fill up your bag with a great deal of candy, we can all expect to see some pretty cool costumes.
