Dearest gentle reader,
Prepare your finest gloves and best gossip, for season 4 of Bridgerton has just made its debut and is planning to stir the ton once more. With Jan. 29 marking part one’s premiere on Netflix, and part 2 freshly out on Feb. 26, this season focuses on Benedict Bridgerton and his search for the “Lady in Silver.”
To quickly unmask the past 3 seasons, the Bridgertons are a regency-era, high-class family of eight siblings, named alphabetically in order. Throughout the first 3 seasons, we see Daphne, Anthony and Colin find their love match. While most of the siblings are set on finding their true loves, both Benedict and Eloise are found to avoid marriage and societal expectations. As season 3 came to an end, fans were left wondering how Benedict’s love story would unfold.
For many viewers, this season did not disappoint.
“Season 4 is one of my favorites so far,” junior Camille Beauchemin said. “It kept me really entertained, and whenever an episode ended, I had to watch the next one immediately. Benedict had a lot of character development and never gave up on finding Sophie at the ball.”
And for others, different parts of the show shone brighter.
“I think my favorite season was Penelope’s (season 3, focused on Colin Bridgerton). I love how smart and what a great writer Penelope is,” English teacher Jessica Porter said. “I also loved that she doesn’t conform to the traditional idea of beauty and body standards.”
While each season highlights its star sibling finding their love match, the seasons have their own subplots in the background. A few include Marina Thompson’s pregnancy scandal, Lady Whistledown’s exposés, Francesca Bridgerton’s debut, and season 4 brought the maid wars. Although it’s surprising that we didn’t hear more about the maids earlier on in the show, it only made sense that Sophie Baek leaving would have set off the wars.
“I liked what they were doing with the class system, and bucking the established rules of the society they live in,” Porter says.
And thus, dear reader, as season 4 comes to a close, ‘tis but a fleeting muddle; season 5, starring Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton, has already begun filming. See you next social season!
