After many years of excellent coaching, our school’s girls’ soccer coach and English teacher Kalé Dwight has decided to retire.
Throughout the years, Coach Dwight has led our girls’ soccer team to victory against many different schools while still keeping respect for every single opponent, regardless of whether they won or lost.
For Dwight, coaching isn’t just about winning and losing; it’s about character, too.
“I think an important part of coaching is being able to win and lose with grace and dignity. I have had my team redo a cheer for an opposing team before because I felt that it wasn’t good enough of a cheer.”
He truly cares about respect for others, and he lets his team know how important respect is in sports. Coach Dwight always made sure the team showed up with the correct attitude and determination, so that our girls’ soccer team could really shine.
“Coach Dwight has helped me grow on and off the field, from my confidence to stepping up as a leader,” senior Jamie Mitsuyoshi said. “I’m grateful to have had a coach who is approachable, supportive, and always puts their team first. His jokes at practice and positive attitude will be missed!”
After spending a long time thinking about it, Coach Dwight has decided to retire from coaching after 20 years. And although his career at Tualatin High School is coming to an end, he’s leaving on a positive note.
“My goal is to make it to as many games as I can over the next few years to watch the current players that I have coached play and kick ass throughout the state!”
