Do’s & Don’ts of online school

Amanda Fronczak, Staff Writer

Adjusting to online school has been a challenge for us all, so to help here’s a list of Dos and Don’ts for your online classes.

DON’T be more than a minute early to your Google Meet, unless you’re in the mood to make small talk. If you’ve been dying to talk about all you’ve been up to lately or what your favorite quarantine activity has been, go right ahead. But if not, save yourself the hassle and wait a minute before joining the call.

DO finish your homework the morning before it’s due; school starts at 10 a.m. anyways. No more staying up until 2 a.m. yawning over your math homework. Instead, pour yourself some coffee and do it in the morning.

DON’T tell your teacher you wait to do your homework the morning it’s due. Some things are just better kept a secret.

DON’T turn your mic on unless you’re talking. No one wants to hear ASMR of you breathing. I promise you it’s not very pleasant listening to heavy breathing throughout the day, so just check that your mic is off every so often.

DO stock up on hoodies and sweatpants – it’s all you’ll be wearing. Emphasis on the sweatpants part. Unfortunately, no one will see that new pair of jeans you bought, so save your money and get some joggers instead.

DO pair a nice shirt with your new sweatpants. The camera only shows your top half anyways, so use that to your advantage. Who says you can’t look put together on a Google Meeting even while rocking your Holiday pajama pants?

DON’T be afraid to ask questions. That’s what your teachers are there for. Seriously, learning through a computer is a completely different experience and can be very challenging, so never be afraid to ask for help.
