Winter sports are starting on Nov. 18, and this is looking to be a season full of cool sports for players and spectators alike. This year, basketball is highly anticipated. Our state champion-winning boys’ and girls’ teams are looking to score some great wins this year.
Tualatin’s wrestling team also has some ambitious goals. “This season, I’m really looking forward to working hard and getting to state championships,” varsity senior Ian Crow said. “And, now that I am a team captain, I’m also making sure to prepare our team to get where we need to be.”
What does Crow want prospective wrestlers to know?
“Just do it. It will build your character and responsibility because you have to continuously work at it to make anything out of it.”
Another activity students can dive into is swimming. Sophomore Isabelle Jones hopes to grow and improve this year, sharing how she mentally prepares for meets.
“I take some deep breaths as I brace for the event to calm my mind and prevent panicking,” Jones said. “Then I get up to the blocks and I wait for the buzzer.”
If you’re looking to take risks in the fresh mountain air, you can try the skiing or snowboarding clubs.
Junior Sophia Lowery likes warming up for competitions by “running through the courses and getting comfortable with it,” she said. “I also ask my coaches for the best strategy, and zone everything else out.”
