As the weather is getting warmer, winter sports are coming to a close, meaning spring sports will be starting up. Spring sports begin on Mar. 2 and all of them are super fun and diverse. Whether you prefer a team sport like softball or baseball, or an individual one like track and field, there are plenty to choose from.
This year our girls’ golf team will be getting a new coach, health teacher Mindy Yarnell. The boys’ golf team has the same coach as last year: CTE teacher Axel Ellsworth.
Senior Rylee Campbell feels that golf is different from other sports.
“Golf is a very mental sport. There are so many factors going into it, both that you can and can’t control. I’d say that golf is especially hard because there is so much going into it, but the ultimate responsibility and blame lies on yourself when you make a mistake.”
Another sport our school offers is track and field. With track and field, athletes don’t need to try out, so all you have to do is show up. This sport has so many events both on and off the track, so if you’re not interested in running, you still have lots of other options as part of the team.
Senior Emily Rufener shared one of the most memorable experiences she’s had during the track and field season in the past.
“Competing at state, getting to travel with my teammates and compete at a high level to end off the season was a really fun experience!”
Girls’ and boys’ tennis and lacrosse are also options for students. They both emphasize teamwork and strategy, allowing for a fun, worthwhile experience. Baseball and softball are also popular sports among the student body.
Junior Hudson Cox stated what he thinks makes baseball a great sport.
“Baseball is a fun team sport, and you’re with your friends practicing and playing games.”
We also can’t forget about esports. Esports are perfect for those who may not like physically playing a sport. You get to play fun video games like Fortnite and Mario Kart with fellow classmates.
We have so many talented athletes who participate in these sports, and you can too. You can register online as long as you have the right documents and a sports-minded attitude!
